Junior Maltese Double Trap shooter Nathan Lee Xuereb had a memorable day yesterday where he was participating in The International Shotgun Cup 2010 at Orimattila, Finlad.

Nathan had to compete among the best Junior Double Trap shooters from Finland, Russia, India and Slovakia in The D/trap event on 150 clays.

He managed 44/50 in his first round, an impressive 48/50 in his second and 42/50 in his third for a total of 134/150. He qualified for the barrage finals in the second place after the Russian shooter with 138/150.

In the barrage final Nathan managed 42/50 for 176/200 to finish 4th place overall.
Nekrasov Artem from Russia finished 1st with 138+47=185
Qmingasov Artur from Russia placed second with 133+47=180
Praj Filip from Slovakia placed third with 132=47=179
Nathan Lee Xuereb from Malta placed fourth with 134+42=176
Masood Shayan from India placed fifth with 127+48=175
Lasarev Maksim from Russia placed sixth with 129+45=174

Considering Nathan’s age, this is a remarkable achievement for shooting sports’ future in Malta. Last June, Nathan won the junior category in the Malta International Double Trap grand Prix 2010. Clive Farrugia and Lee Micallef will be shooting on Saturday and Sunday in Skeet and Trap respectively. Nathan is being assisted by MSSF coach Jimmy Bugeja.

This success in shooting sport came exactly today, on the 50th anniversary of the first Maltese shooters, Wenzu Vella and Peppi Grech
to participate in The Rome Olympics in August 1960.
