Nadia Portelli (Agones SFC) , a local trail runner, recently participated in the Guernsey Ultra Marathon 57  km (36 miles) 1200 m D+, with an excellent time of 6 hours and 14 minutes and taking the podium for the ladies section to boot.  The Channel Islands’ challenging race  in its third edition started at 7 am from St Peter’s Port – and headed straight out onto the cliffs for over 27 km before dropping down onto the more gentle slopes and sand dunes that follow the coast line before finishing back at the start position in St Peter’s Port. This race is a great ultra marathon (more than 42  km for trail runners who are stepping up from the full marathon distance or are training for an even longer ultra.

This year’s edition was won by Tiann Erwee who finished the race in 4 hours and 57 minutes. Portelli finished in the overall 8th position. Content to have defied the elements as the race was held in cold and rainy weather, Portelli exclaimed her satisfaction at the end of the race and acknowledged that her hard work and training particularly in windy conditions in Malta over the last weeks, paid off with the time improvement she registered. Portelli’s next challenge will take her to Cortina D’Ampezzo to tackle the Cortina Trail which is 47 km long and 2650 m D+  of cumulative elevation gain.

Agones (SFC) organise the local trail running league with various races including short and longer races and a night race, throughout the year.
