A Press Conference called by ex-Sliema President MP Robert Arrigo to announce the renewal of sponsorships to various sports clubs, included a very interesting statement by the new Għargħur FC President, Andrew Sullivan, towards the end of the presentation.

After Mr. Arrigo handed his personal financial contributions to Pemroke Athleta (Basketball), Gżira Boċċi Club, Ta’ Xbiex Netball, Pembroke FC, Swieqi FC, Ta’ Xbiex FC and Sliema FC he asked the Club’s representatives to address the local press who gathered at his office at the St. Julian’s Hotel.

Andrew Sullivan, thanked Mr. Arrigo for his financial assistance and promised the Għargħur supporters that he will do his utmost to get the team promoted from the 3rd to the 2nd Division.

When asked by sportinmalta.com for the reason why he opted not to run again for the San Ġwann committee where for the past two seasons he served as a high official, he remarked “I opted not to candidate myself as an official with San Ġwann FC because I did not agree with the contract the committee has signed with a local soft drinks company when I was not available to voice my opinion”. When pressed to give more details, he refused, but when asked if he was going to be the club delegate within the MFA council ,the outspoken President made a blunt statement that he, as new President of Għargħur, had given clear instructions to Mark Pullicino (Għargħur’s delegate) to vote for Norman Darmanin Demajo.

Contrary to what happened in past elections, Għargħur will therefore be voting for De De and not for. “I know that my predecessor Emanuel Bezzina was a hardcore supporter of Joe Mifsud and this club has always voted for him but now that Bezzina has no connection with our club, we as Għargur are open and have no fear to say that we will vote for Norman” conclude Sullivan.

Watch the exclusive interview with Andrew Sullivan specifically promising Għargħur’s vote for Norman Darmanin Demajo.

Taf x`inhu il-buzillis Sur Sullivan? Li billi tajt l-instructions ma jfisser xejn: il-vot qatt ma tista tkun taf kif tefghu “your delegate”. Imma ovvjament ma stajtx tghid mod iehor fi presentation li saret minn wiehed mill-public enemies ta Joe Mifsud kumbinazzjoni waqt ir-”run-up”

Dwar San Gwann FC, forsi tista tispjega ghalfejn kien hemm perjodu li int ma stajtx tkun prezenti ? U forsi tista tghid ghalfejn hadtha bi kbira bil-kuntratt mal-kumpanija tas-soft drinks u jekk hux relatat ma xi interess personali ?

Nahseb seta zamm ilsienu u ma qal xejn. Anqas kien prudenti zzeffen fin-nofs lill-president ta’ qabel tal-Gharghur. Din mhiex serjeta`. Dwar Joe Mifsud morru staqsu ghalih fil-UEFA ghax jien dejjem smajt kliem ta’ tifhir dwaru. Issa jekk jitla d-Dede j’Alla jkollu success daqs Mifsud fl-isfera internazzjonali.
