These past two weekends, local target shooters have taken part in two major competitions to help them analyse their progress for peaking at the right time for the Luxembourg GSSE.

The two competitions comprised of the 2nd GSSE selection shoot and the Stage 2 of the Eley-NSRA UK competition. In the ‘mixed’ Air-Rifle event, notable among the shooters were Marianna Kisvardai who scored an excellent 388/400 points (Olympic MQS), just two points ahead of Malta’s new revelation shooter Alison Vella who scored another PB of 386/400 points (Olympic MQS). In 3rd place Romeo Zuber scored 348/400 points.
In the Junior Air-Rifle event, Gianluca Azzopardi Spiteri made it again to first place with a score of 321 points whilst Izaac Zammit followed in second place with a score of 267 points.
In the Air-Pistol event, Eleanor Bezzina secured first place as she shot the winning score of 370/400 points (Olympic MQS) ahead of Stephen Vassallo who succeeded in second place with a score of 359 points. Ray Cacciatolo was third with 356 points. Mario Mallia Milanes finished in 4th pace with 333 points followed by Josette Galea Calleja with 322 points and Martin Grech with 313 points in 6th place.
The shot targets will now be sent for scoring by the National Smallbore Rifle Association of the UK and our shooters will then be classified along with all other shooters from all over Britain taking part in this competition. The shooters who classify for the finals will be awarded with gold medals and compete in the finals at the National Shooting Centre in Bisley, England next Summer.
