Mosta and Mqabba share the spoils- Valletta earn a hard fought win

Mqabba and Mosta shared a 1-1 draw in yesterday’s first match at the Victor Tedesco stadium.

Mosta opened the score thanks to returning striker Gilbert Martin as his powerful shot hit the upright before ended in the back of the net. Clive Mizzi’s side equalized by defender Marko Potezica as his long range shot gave no chance to Mosta goalkeeper Jonathan Debono to ended Mqabba two winless run.

Mqabba now have ten points from ten games as they moved to seventh place joined with Balzan Youths, meanwhile Mosta stayed bottom place with just five points from ten games.

Valletta earn a hard fought win

Late goals from Roderick Briffa and Alfred Effiong earned a hard fought 2-0 win for the Champions against battling ten men Balzan Youths

Valletta now are two points clear on the top of the table although Hibernians have a game in hand today against strugglers Floriana. The Citizens have twenty five points from ten games as Balzan stayed seventh with ten points from ten games.

Valletta’s unconvincing display in the one-all draw with Sliema prompted coach Jesmond Zerafa to tweak his selection. Captain Gilbert Agius and Dyson Falzon were restored to the starting line-up at the expense of Ryan Fenech and Ian Azzopardi respectively.

Falzon assumed the left-back role in a 4-3-3 formation with Gilbert Agius taking up a central midfield position alongside the regular duo of Edmond Agius and Jamie Pace.

Flank defender Renie Forace was back in the fray for Balzan after suspension kept him out of the 3-1 win over Marsaxlokk. Ivan Zammit, the Balzan coach, was without defender Yessous Camilleri, suspended.

First Half

3min: Citizens was in search for the lead as on the 3rd minute a cross shot by Pace was saved by Balzan goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri.

6min:William Barbosa shot from inside the penalty area was off target

12min: Dyson Falzon corner was cleared off the line by Balzan defender Nikola Tasic.

24min: Red Card for Ciantar!!! Clifton was shown the red card following a nasty tackle on Valletta defender Jonathan Caruana.

37min: Jamie Pace low effort ended wide.

Second Half

46min: Miguel cianter shot was off target after he was served by hard worker David Fenech.

54min: Gilbert Agius first timer hit the post after he was served by substituted Ryan Fenech.

76min: Valletta finally managed to open the score thanks to a low shot by Roderick Briffa from outside the penalty area, deflected by Tasic, with the ball ending at the back of the net.

88min: Valletta scred their second as second half substituted Alfred Effiong gained possession following a shot by Dyson Falzon from outside the area and his low shot beaten the Matthew Camilleri.
