Sliema keep the pace with a 2-1 victory over Hibernians

It was Michael Mifsud’s day at Ta’ Qali as the Valletta players found the going tough to beat a resilient Qormi. One could see a frustrated Valletta side during the first half, as the Citizens were expected to score early given their power up front.

But a patient and defensive Qormi kept Caanen’s men at bay and tested the Valletta defence through a number of counter attacks by striker Effiong.

After the break, Valletta were a transformed side and opened the score in the 47th minute with Terrence Scerri firing home from within a few yards following a cross by the hard-working Bezzina.

Three minutes later, Valletta skipper Gilbert Agius doubled the score with a fine strike from outside the penalty area sending the hundreds of Valletta fans into a frenzy. Agius was also voted as the BOV player of the match.

The much awaited Mifsud goal came in the 57th minute when the Qormi defence fumbled the balls inside their penalty area and Mifsud was quick to find the back of the net.

Valletta are now joint leaders with Birkirkara who have a game in hand as they face Tarxien rainbows tomorrow afternoon.

In the other match from the BOV Premier League, an in-form Sliema beat Hibernians with the scoreline of 2-1, with Mifsud Triganza finding the net twice for Sliema after Andrew Cohen opened the score in the 22nd minute.
