Two men are believed to have been questioned over the past hours in a Police probe after a Balzan FC player allegedly was approached to throw away the match involving his team against Mosta last weekend. Many local football fans including some sectors of the Press may have thought that it was possibly a Mosta player, official, or supporter who might have approached this player but it was not the case.

Close sources to the Police Headquarters revealed that a high official from a top local Premier League Club is being questioned for his possible involvement in the case.  This man is thought to have acted as a middle man in the situation as he had been originally been asked to act on another Club’s behalf also in the First division but not Mosta FC. In fact the Mosta FC committee issued a statement on Monday evening whereby it disassociated completely from the case and condemned any sort of corruption.

The alleged corruption case ended up at the Floriana Police Headquarters after the Balzan player, who was approached by the middleman, informed the Balzan Youths Club President Mr. George Borg, with the latter asking the player to go and report all to the Police. The player who stepped up and is helping the Police in this case cannot be named at this stage but this website is informed that he is an ex-Premier player who featured for two Clubs in the Malta top Division.

The Malta FA will be only informed officially about this case by the Police if enough evidence in provided to take up legal actions against the involved.
