Legend Michael Galea ended an emotional fourteen years associated with Birkirkara after agreeing not to renew his contract.

Newly elected Birkirkara president Joe Zammit has held lengthy discussions with the thirty-two year old on Saturday morning, but in the end both parties agreed to a mutual divorce.

The former Maltese international was quoted on the club website as saying:

“The past 14 years at the club have been wonderful for me and I am proud to have contributed to many of the success that Birkirkara have enjoyed throughout these years. I wish the club the very best for the future and assure everyone that I will remain a Birkirkara supporter in the years to come.”

Sportinmalta also made contact with Galea about his future and he has not yet decided whether to make an emotional return to end his career with Melita alongside his brothers Julian and Simon.

Michael Galea is also the best ever scorer for the club with a total of 177 league goals just twenty shorter than all time leading scorer Stefan Sultana in Maltese history.
