Micallef nets four medals for Stella Maris College in Vienna

13 year-old swimmer Matthew Micallef was the protagonist of the team representing Stella Maris College during this weekend’s World Sports Festival in Vienna which attracted the participation of over 3000 athletes from 30 countries. Micallef alone won half of the school’s total medal haul after racing to gold in the 100m. freestyle and also winning silver in the 50m. freestyle and 50m. backstroke. In the 50m. butterfly Micallef also won the bronze medal.

In badminton Garrett Bonello teamed up with Jiri Bures (Czech Repuvlic) in the doubles competition and ended up winning silver.

In table tennis two bronze medals were won. Daniel Musu first finished third in the U/13 singles event and then teamed up with Ayrton Galea in the U/13 doubles event and also finished third. Wrestler Gary Giordimaina finished third in the U/15 50kg. category. This was the College’s second venture at the event following last year’s debut which saw the squad garner one silver medal and seven bronze medals.
