Mgarr win last game on high

Both teams played their last game in Section C 2 with Mgarr being the best outfit during the whole 80 minutes of play. Mgarr finished in 3rd placing on 22 points from 12 games while Fgura finished third from bottom on 10 points also from 12 games.

Mgarr created the first action as Daniel Deguara served Gabriel Vella with a through ball and Christian Frendo foiled him with a timely tackle, while at the other end, Aaron Vella served Eugenio Abela in the area and after Mgarr keeper Ronald Vassallo partly saved his shot and Ian Scerri drove out from the rebound.

In another action by Mgarr Gabriel Vella was fouled outside the area, from the free kick by the same player the ball was partly cleared and Dejan Vidolich drove out from the rebound.

Fgura then mounted two actions in a row. A flag kick by James Cauchi created havoc in Mgarr’s area but the ball was somehow cleared to safety and another flag kick by the same player was headed away with difficulty.

Mgarr mounted another action when Gabriel Vella was fouled on the right edge of the area and after the ball was partly cleared from the free kick by Daniel Law the ball missed the far poat from the rebound shot by the same player.

Three actions were then created by Fgura. Aaron Vella served Abela with a through ball and Mgarr keeper Vassallo had to come out of his charge to kick the ball upfield, in a similar action between the same players a defender cleared the ball to a corner, in another action  by the same two players Vassallo partly saved Abela’s effort and the ball was cleared away.

Five minutes before the break Mgarr opened the score after a prolonged action. Daniel Vassallo was fouled outside the area, Nicholas Abela served Wayne Sammut with a short pass on the left edge of the area who then crossed the ball in the area and Gabriel Vella scored with a low shot past Fgura keeper Lionel Camilleri.

Mgarr created the first action after the restart as Gabriel Vella served Vassallo with a through ball but he drove slightly over the bar, at the other end, Fgura won a corner kick on the left flank and Carl Ciantar drove slightly over the bar direct from the flag kick.

Fgura equalised in the 51st minute when Aaron Vella served Scerri with a through ball who after advancing scored with a hard low drive from the edge of the area, and hardly a minute later they scored a second goal when Aaron Vella was fouled on the left flank and Eugenio Abela scored with a hard rising shot from 25 metres.

Mgarr restored equilibrium on the hour as Daniel Vassallo was served with a cross in the area from the right flank who scored wioth a low drive to make the score 2-2.

Two minutes later Mgarr were leading 3-2 as Gabriel Vella was fouled outside the area and Danile Law scored with a hard rising shot from the resultant free kick.

Fgura kept trying to save the game. Juan Mifsud served Wayne Zammit with a through ball and Mgarr keeper Ronald Vassallo had to come out of his charge to kick the ball to safety and after Abela was fouled in midfield the ball was headed away from the free kick by Zammit.

Mgarr put the issue beyond any doubt as they scored two more goals in the 73rd and 76th minutes. Gabriel Vella served Sammut with a square pass in the area and he scored with a low shot and after Law dribbled past a defender scored with a low shot after entering the area for a score of 5-2.
