The Malta Football Association earned top place in UEFA’s marketing awards last night when the results of the Fan Experiential Category were announced at a ceremony in Cacais, Portugal.

Success in this sector was in the wake of the Reach Out campaign by the association’s marketing department which was geared to entice fans from different sectors of society to watch matches of the UEFA Under-17 championship finals held in Malta last May.

This is a prestigious honour for a small country like Malta, one which earns further recognition for the work put in by the MFA through its marketing department.

There were eight submissions for this award, with Malta making the final short list along such countries as France and Belgium.

The coveted UEFA KISS award was first launched in 2011 and ever since the event proved to be a hit among the several initiatives by Europe’s football governing body to promote the game in all sectors. This particular initiative focuses strictly on marketing matters, brand-building sponsorship, fan engagement, digital marketing and marketing research, football promotion, merchandising and licensing.

Present for the awards ceremony in Portugal were Norman Saliba, manager of the MFA’s marketing department, and Joe Cassar, tournament director of the UEFA Under-17 championship finals
