None of the member Club representatives, association members and other individuals that were present at yesterday’s MFA council meeting uttered a word when it was revealed that the MFA was selling it’s premises in Valletta.

When Antoine Portelli the MFA treasurer announced that the MFA was “very close” to  sell the premises in St.Paul’s Street Valletta, many of the council members were taken by surprise that such a transaction was about to be undertaken in less than three months since the new administration got into office.

Even though this was an instrumental financial issue none of those present voiced their opinion or asked for the valuation of the premises. Amongst those present yesterday were Victor Cassar – Hamrun,  Jesmond Abela – Hibs, Claudio Martinelli – Msida SJ, Joe Sammut – Pieta’, Paul Spiteri – Valletta, Redino Apap – Qormi, Benny Casha – Senglea, Robert Micallef – Marsaxlokk, Stefan Vella- Fgura, Lorry Sammut representing the Referees, Charles Calleja – GFA and many others.

Antoine Portelli explained that he personally asked experts in property to valuate the premises so that the MFA could have a clear idea of it’s market price.  Portelli also asked Vice President Mr. Ludovico Micallef, an architect by profession, to valuate the ex-MFA offices in Valletta and he said that the price offered by the interested party is much higher than the valuation of Micallef. Portelli did not divulge the sum that was being offered.

Portelli concluded by asking if there were any objections by the council members present so that he could proceed with the transaction. No one voiced any concern so he was given the go ahead to sell this asset in the interest of the Association.

I actually have been livng abroad the last 2 years and I have to travel 90 minutes (80km) to get to work and another 90 to get back, for 5 months of the year in snow, so don’t tell me that travelling to Ta Qali a few km from all over the island is a big problem for you.
