What could have been a great opportunity for the newly promoted Premier Division side Balzan FC resulted in a frustrating situation as the MFA has deprived the Malta team to play the Turin based youth selection.

The Juventus Under 19 squad composed mainly of players from the Primavera squad is set to arrive in Malta on August 6th for a five day training camp ahead of the domestic League.

This site is informed that Juventus FC had originally approached Balzan’s President George Borg and asked him if his Club would accept to play a friendly against the Premier side on 7th August. Gianluca Pessotto who is coordinating the visit in Malta had originally also asked the MFA to schedule a friendly also with the Malta U/21 National team on 9th August.

Unfortunately what could have been a nice opportunity for Balzan to play against prospective professional players turned into a big disappointment as the MFA is insisting that it is only the Malta u/21 squad to play the Turin based selection. The MFA’s version is that no local Club can play against Juventus U/19 due to what according to high officials is “MFA’s protocol”.

It is not yet known who will foot the bill for the lodging of the Juventus contingent.
