MESA Contingent for ECSG Ghent 2017

A contingent of 32 athletes will be travelling to Belgium next Tuesday, 20th June, to take part in the 21st edition of the European Company Sport Games which will be held in the city of Ghent between 21st and 25th June. This will be the second time that the Malta Employees Sports Association (MESA) is taking part in these games which are held every two years, after taking part in the 20th edition held two years ago in Riccione, Italy.

The Maltese athletes will be taking part in Athletics, Badminton, Bowling and Table Tennis.

Two athletes will be taking part in Athletics, that is Mario Grech in the 5,000 metres and George Vella in the 800 metres.

Three teams will be taking part in Badminton, that is two in the Mixed Open category and one team in the Mixed 40+ category. The two Mixed Open teams include some of the top badminton players in Malta, while the Mixed 40+ team includes veteran players who dominated the game in their hey days.

In the Mixed Open category, the two Maltese teams will be vying with 46 other teams, while the Mixed 40+ category will be made up of 24 teams. The players making up the three Maltese teams are:

MESA 1 (Open): Abela Matthew, Cali Samuel, Degaetano Nigel, Mifsud Tiziana, Sadowski Fiorella and Thomsen Henrik

MESA 2 (Open): Abela Edmond, Cali O’Berg Klara, Francica Dominique, Grech Owen and Spiteri Christopher

MESA 40+: Cassar Joanne, Dimech Catherine, Ferrante Stephen, Polidano Aldo, Spiteri M’Carmela, Spiteri Sandra and Vella Kenneth

Two Maltese teams will be taking part in Bowling, that is a team from Bank of Valletta and another one from the Malta International Airport. The players making up these two teams are:

Bank of Valletta: Attard Alan, Camilleri Hubert, Grech James and Xuereb Josward

Malta International Airport: Belli Aaron, Cassar Stephen, Ellul Mario, Farrugia Charles, Galea Charles and Pulis Alfred

One team will be taking part in the Men 40+ category in Table Tennis, made up of Kevin Zammit and Martin Zammit. A total of 40 teams will be taking part in this category.
