On Saturday the Winter league continued with Krishna C.C playing against Melita Betfair C.C. The Krishna team looking to keep up with the leaders Marsa C.C needing a win.

The Krishna team batted first but were already in trouble within two balls of the innings when Joy Ghoseroy was bowled. Andy Lenard went in and blasted thirty six runs from twenty two balls. He hit a six and a four along the way. The only batsman to retire (local rule) was Nowell Khosla who scored thirty four runs including two fours. The next high score came from extras which was a total of twenty four. No other batsmen made it past ten runs. It was good to see Adam Krishna scoring seven runs not out which edged the team past the 125 runs for a bonus point. The Krishna team totalled 132 runs.

For Melita Betfair Kevin Krishna and Jim Heasman were the wicket takers with two a piece. Andy Naudi, Chris Naudi, Bikram Arora and Ian Pendlebury all took a wicket each.

The big question was whether the Krishna team could hold the Melita team down. The Naudi Brothers, Chris and Andy opened the innings and gave their team a partnership of forty runs before Chris (thirteen runs) was bowled. Some of the best running  between the wickets was to be seen.  Andy was next to go chasing a widish delivery, top edging and Dave Borg making a brilliant catch, having to go backwards, leap and catch the ball one handed with the ball going away from him.  Bikram Arora (forty runs) and John Grima (twenty nine runs) sealed the fate of the game. They both retired. Arora’s inning’s was more glamorous hitting two sixes and two fours. He was also dropped when on twenty, one only can wonder what if the catch had been taken, but the old saying comes to mind – catches win matches. Ian Pendlebury and Kevin Krishna mustered up the remaining runs for their teams victory. For Krishna Nowell Khosla was the main wicket taker with two and Darren Grech took one.

Melita Betfair earned eight points for the win but still remain third with nineteen points in the standings. Krishna earned one point and remain second on twenty points.

Next Saturday Melita Betfair C.C take on the leaders Marsa C.C.  The nursery/academy will be open from 9:00 till 10:30am.
