Massimo Cremona wins England and Malta Grand Prix

This weekend the Grand Prix of England took place in Milton Keynes with four Maltese players taking part in this competition. Massimo Cremona and Hansel Mallia in the Open Category while Joseph Mifsud and Joe Debono in the Veteran Category.

Massimo Cremona won the England Gran Prix where as in the Final he thrashed Axel Donval of France 4-0.

The match started as a balanced encounter until Cremona broke the deadlock and added another goal just before half time to take a two goal advantage. Although the Frenchman started the second half offensively, Cremona continue to dictate the game and struck two more goals to give him his first success in the English Grand Prix after reaching last year’s final.

In the Group stages Cremona beat Jessica Hardenne of Belgium 5-0 and English duo Steve Hawkins 1-0 and Mike Parnaby 5-0.

In the Knock out phase, Cremona defeated Manfred Pawlica of Austria 2-0, in the quarter final Bjorn Kegenbeim of Germany 2-1 while in the semi final he eliminated Chris Short of England 1-0.

On his part Hansel Mallia reached the quarter final loosing to Chris Short of England 0-2.

In the Veteran Category Joseph Mifsud made it all the way to the final loosing to Belgium Olivier Pere 2-3. 40 players from 11 different nations took part in the Open Category

Malta Grand Prix

A week earlier at the Magazino Hall in the Valletta Waterfront, Massimo Cremona retained the Malta Gran Prix for the third consecutive year when he beat Charles Aquilina in the final with a 3-2 scoreline after a penalty shootout.

In the semi final Cremona beat Derek Conti 2-1 while in the quarter final he eliminated Vito di Ruggiero of Belgium 3-1. On his part Aquilina beat Gauci 2-1.

A day earlier in the International Open Mark Gauci won this event beating Cremona 2-1 in the final. Derek Conti and Hansel Mallia reached the semi finals.

“It was a fantastic week where in the span of seven days I managed to win both Grand Prix of England and that of Malta and also reached the International Open final. I trained hard in the past month and my results proved this” Cremona commented.
