Marsaxlokk players have decided that they are to honour the fixture against Valletta FC this Sunday despite they are up in arms with the Club’s committee.

Addressing a news conference at the GWU premises in Valletta Carlo Mamo said that all the players have been let down due to the fact that there are overdue payments to both local and foreign players. In this regard Mamo said that he is making a general appeal to the MFA to open the transfer window with immediate effect so as to let the Club sell the players to other teams and with the cash injection Marsaxlokk FC can pay the arrears to the players.

According to Mamo FIFA will permit such a transfer upon permission being granted by the MFA.

Carlo Mamo was flanked by Malcolm Licari and Reuben Gauci amongst other players. The players spokesperson was aided to confront the questions from the present media by lawyer Anthony Galea who was representing the Malta Football Players Association.

Mamo stressed that what led the players to speak to the Press was the insecurity that surrounds the Club. Mamo also complained that he wants the Club to guarantee that the players are guaranteed medical rehabilitation should any one of them gets injured whilst playing with Marsaxlokk. He also confirmed that on Saturday morning the Club confirmed the services of a physiotherapist as of tomorrow’s game.

Carlo Mamo said that although he is aware that the Club is tyring its utmost to solve the current financial crisis of the Club, he still thinks that the Club should sell the players to other Clubs so that all dues are set without further delay.

Anthony Galea said that it was ridiculous that a particular foreign player was asked to move out of his flat by the landlord unless the Club or the player himself pays the monthly rental.

Present also as a moral support to the players was Konrad Sultana representing even himself the MFPA and Ray Libreri representing the GWU.
