Marsa victorious against visiting Leyland Cricket Club

Over the weekend the Marsa C.C team played against returning touring team Leyland C.C from the United Kingdom.

On Saturday the home team batted first. A very good bowling performance kept the home side to sixty two runs from twenty two overs and losing John Grima (six runs), Joy Ghoseroy (eleven runs), Tim Wheeler (nine runs), Nowell Khosla (seventeen runs) and Simon Mayeri (seven runs). Derek Ali came in and put some respectability into the innings scoring a fine fifty four runs including four fours and two sixes. Mike Caruana supported with eleven runs not out.

The Marsa side totalled 160 runs from there allotted overs. Owen Leeds was the main wicket taker with three for the visitors while, Karl Cross, Gareth Leeds, Monty Cottam and Dale Vardy all took a wicket each. The Marsa bowlers also bowled extremely well and dismissed the visitors for 115 runs. Mark Thompson top scoring with thirty six runs. Monty Cottam scored seventeen runs and Nathan McDonald scored eleven being the main scorers. For Marsa, Mike Caruana was the main wicket taker with three. Andy Naudi and Joy Ghoseroy took two wickets each. Nowell Khosla and Kevin Krishna took a wicket each. The Marsa team win the game.

On Sunday the Leyland team batted first. Again the Marsa bowlers put in an excellent exhibition of bowling, bowling the visitors out for 95 runs. I. Farrington top scoring with twenty five runs and Karl Cross twenty two runs. For Marsa Ronnie Sacco was the main wicket taker with four, Nowell Khosla took three wickets while, Gordon Hewitt, Adam Krishna and Mike Caruana all took a wicket each. In reply the Marsa team did not lose any wickets with the opening pair making all the runs. Nowell Khosla scored sixty seven runs including four fours and three sixes. Mark G.Sacco made twenty two runs and there were eight extras. Marsa win the game.

Last Thursday the two teams played a twenty over game. Leyland batted first and totalled 115 runs. Monty Cottam top scoring with twenty two runs. For Marsa three bowlers, Nowel Khosla,Justin Brooke and Mark G.Sacco all took two wickets each..

The Marsa team were bowled out for 79 runs. Sam Aquilina and Mike Caruana were the top run scorers with fifteen runs each. Karl Cross and Gareth Leeds were the main wicket takers with two each. Leyland win the game.

This was the first time in five tours that the Marsa team were able to defeat Leyland C.C in a series. Well done.

Last Monday a game was played against the HMS St.Albans. The navy ship were chasing 143 runs and managed to get there target in the last over.

Next Saturday the Summer league continues. Marsa C.C play Overseas C.C and on Sunday Mellieha C.C play Betfair C.C. Both games will be starting at 10:30am.
