Marsa beat touring team Essington

Over the weekend the Marsa C.C took on new touring team Essington C.C from Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England in a two game series.

On Saturday the Marsa team batted first. A wonderful and eventful innings from Joy Ghoseroy who scored fifty runs set up the innings. Ronnie Sacco produced one of his best innings of the year and scored forty four runs. The Marsa team totalled 176 from their allotted overs. For Essington J.Broadhurst was the main wicket taker with three. M.Blackmore and D.Jenkins both took two each..

In reply the Marsa team were looking comfortable with early wickets, only Francis had made twenty eight runs for the visitors. N.Hickman (thirty two runs) and A.Gibson (forty runs) turned the game round and had their team back on track and had the local boys worried. Once their wickets were taken the Marsa bowlers were able to contain the game and Marsa won the game by sixteen runs. Mike Caruana and Ronnie Sacco were the main wicket takers with three a piece. Marsa go one up in the series.

On Sunday the Marsa team again batted first. Nowell Khosla opening the batting batted well and top scored with forty three runs. Javed Shah scored forty one runs including three fours and a six. Andy Lenard scored twenty five runs, While Chris Naudi (twenty three runs not out) and Andy Naudi (thirty runs not out) saw out the allotted overs. The Marsa team totalled 210 runs. For Essington A.Worgan and M.Blackmore were the main wicket takers with two a piece.

The reply from the visitors was not as the day before and were bowled out for 138 runs. A.Gibson again was top scorer with thirty three runs. D.Jenkins made twenty three runs and N.Hickman eighteen runs. For Marsa Gordon Hewitt was the main wicket taker with three wickets while Nowell Khosla and Sarfraz Ali both two wickets each. Marsa win the game and the series two to nil.

Last Wednesday Marsa .C.C played the third game against Brooklands C.C who were on their fourth tour to the island and unbeaten by the local side.

Brooklands batted first and totalled 111 runs of their forty overs with R.Leach top scoring with thirty four runs and A.CLowes twenty two runs. For Marsa Nowell Khosla and Mike Caruana were the main wicket takers with three wickets each. In reply the Marsa team stood up strong with Khosla capping off his bowling with an equal top score with Andy Naudi of forty three runs. These innings set up the win for the home side, but still lost the series two to one.

Next Saturday the Marsa C.C take on new touring team , The Journeyman C.C from the U.K.
