MARPSC Selection Competition for GSSE San Marino 2017

On Saturday 26 November, the Malta Air Rifle & Pistol Shooting Club organized its first selection competition (from 4 selections) to qualify for GSSE to be held in San Marino in June 2017.   Positive scores were recorded and 3 shooters already obtained their Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS).

10m Air Pistol event

Both male and female shooters had to shoot 60 shots in 1hr 15 mins.  Eleanor Bezzina took the lead with a total of 571 from 600 points, followed by Raymond Cacciattolo with 545 points and Stephen Vassallo with 531.  The first 40 of the 60 shots  were the qualifying for the Women Event were Eleanor obtained the MQS with a total of 380 from 400 points.

In the final round no changes were recorded and Eleanor won the ‘mixed’ Air Pistol event with a total of 198.0 followed by Raymond with 188.6 and in third place Stephen with 167.9.

10m Air Rifle event

60 shots were shot in 1hr 15mins in the Air Rifle event qualification competition, where Alison Formosa gave a good show and took the lead with a total of 609.8 from 654 points, followed by William Vella with 600.7 and Gianluca Azzoaprdi Spiteri with 580.1.  Here two shooters obtained their MQS, namely Alison in the Women Air Rifle and William in the Men Air Rifle event.

In a close marking final, William with 199.0 points,  just 1.2 points advantage on Alison with a total of 198.2 points, secured first place.  Gianluca placed in third place.

Wales AirGun Competition 2016

Few days ago Gianluca Azzopardi Spiteri (Air Rifle), Antoine Attard (Air Pistol), Josephine Galea Calleja (Air Pistol) and Stephen Vassallo (Air Pistol) participated in the international Wales AirGun Competition 2016 which was held at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.  The contingent returned home with two bronze medals.

In the Air Rifle Junior Men event, Gianluca with a total of 579.1 points placed third place and finished on the podium with a bronze medal.

In the Air Pistol Men event, Stephen with a total of 526 points placed third place in Category B and was awarded a bronze medal.
