The excellent relations achieved during last year’s Mediterranean Friendship Games between the Sicilian and the Maltese Target Shooting Teams, opened the door to what should become a great cooperation in this sport for both countries.

Recently, the Malta Air-Rifle & Pistol Shooting Club’s president – Lawrence Darmanin was invited by the President of Tiro a Segno Nazionale of Catania – Dr Carlo Rossitto, to discuss the possibility of maltese target shooters participating and training at their shooting ranges in Catania especially in the absence of such ranges in Malta.

In the meantime Sicilian shooters would also be coming to Malta for competing with local target shooters in air-rifle and air-pistol 10m shooting disciplines at the club’s indoor ranges in Bidnija.

Such agreements are most beneficial to our shooters to get essential experience in target shooting without the involvement of high costs in participation and travelling. In the absence of funds and decent shooting ranges in Malta, this will give the maltese athletes the possibility to prepare themselves better for the forthcoming Games of the Small States of Europe to be held next year in Liechtenstein.

During his visit, Darmanin was made an honorary member of TSN Catania and also participated in the club’s “Coppa d’Inverno” shooting competition in the 50m Prone 0.22 Rifle, winning this shooting event with a score of 553/600 in gale-force winds.
