The 2010 IDPA European Championships which were held in Brescia Italy between the 22nd and the 24th October have just been concluded with a very positive result by Maltese shooter Cassar.

The Malta Shooting Sport Federation has participated in this prestigious International Dynamic Shooting Discipline alongside other nations including Italy, Serbia, Greece, Germany and Austria where 180 shooters took part. The Shooters from Malta were Mark Cassar, Patrick Azzopardi and John Cassar.

The Marksman Stock Service Pistol category was won by Mark Cassar.  In the Marksman Custom Defence Pistol category Patrick Azzopardi placed a remarkable 5th place and in the Sharpshooter Henhanced Service Pistol Senior category John Cassar placed 6th.  Regardless, the three shooters enjoyed themselves immensely as, competition apart, their Italian hosts have made their stay a memorable one.

Considering there are as yet no facilities for regular practice of dynamic disciplines in Malta, the results are per se quite remarkable and it is thanks to the Parliamentary Secretary Clyde Puli who supported the initiative and the Commander AFM Brig Martin Xuereb who allowed the use of Safi Range for IDPA training purposes that have ensured such a successful outcome. Suitable ranges for IDPA and similar disciplines could easily be set up even here in Malta.  This would eventually pave the way for the hosting of similar events in Malta in the not too distant future. The space required for holding IDPA international circuit events is quite minimal. A real possibility for even a small nation like Malta.
