Team Greens, Marie Claire Aquilina wrote history in local mountain bike racing after clinching the third place overall in the International Etna Marathon Mountain Bike race last weekend.  Aquilina who needs no introduction for her Mountain bike exploits added another important gem in her extensive racing palmares.

The Etna Marathon which was held last Sunday is also dubbed as The race on the highest active volcano in Europe attracted over  900 athletes hailing from Italy and other European countries.  It  covered over 74km of volcanic terrain with a total ascent of 2480 metres with its highest peak reaching  1820 metres  above sea level. Aquilina covered the race in 4hrs 55minutes.

‘A race of this calibre requires sharp mountain bike handling skills in order to navigate through the volcanic terrain, especially in the long downhill sections. I have prepared all summer for this race which also required me to change my racing equipment to full suspension. I am glad that finally I have reached the podium  after so many attemps ’ said an exhausted but elated Aquilina following her race. Aquilina also claimed first prize in her category. Team Greens Greens was also represented by  Jeffrey Borg who made a comeback to international racing after a season hampered by injury, James Mifsud and Gerard Said.
