Maltese weightlifters to compete in the European Weightlifting Championships

Kieran Mifsud and Yazmin Zammit Stevens will be participating in Europe’s biggest weightlifting event next week  in the European senior Championships in Split,Croatia.

Zammit Stevens will be the first Maltese woman to ever compete at European Seniors on Tuesday 4th of April in the 63kg category, while 17 year old Mifsud will be competing in the men’s 105kg category on Friday 7th. Both athletes are hoping to set respectable totals in order to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

The two have spent the last 6 weeks in Rome preparing for this event alongside the Italian national team. Jesmond Caruana, President of Malta weightlifting, will accompany the athletes. Caruana is also selected from the European Federation as a member of Jury for the championship, while Stephen Borg will be on duty as technical controller. The European Championships will be featured live on Eurosport.
