Maltese Powerlifters obtain positive result in World Championships

Four Maltese Powerlifters have just returned to Malta from Ireland where they participated in the World Drug-Free Powerlifting Federation World Chanpionships.

Charles Degiorgio, lifting in the under 75kg category managed a respectable 4th place out of 12 competitiors in this weight category.  He squatted 180kg, bench pressed 110kg and deadlifted 220kg for a 510kg total.  Degiorgio is ranked 3rd in the National rankings.
Lifting in the under 82.5kg category Herman Mula squatted 170kg, bench pressed 115kg and deadlifted 215kg for a 500kg total which placed him in 11th place out of 16 competitors.  This was his first time competing overseas, and the result is a personal best for this lifter with a bright future.
Competing in the under 90kg category, Kris Mintoff and Josef Spiteri placed 3rd and 6th respectively from an 11 man category.  Mintoff squatted 205kg, benched 122.5kg and added a 247.5kg deadlift to total 575kg, while Spiteri squatted 182.5kg, deadlifted 220kg and bench pressed a remarkable 150kg, the biggest bench press in this category.
