Maltese Nominee for Trofeo Del Mare 2017

Wilfred Sultana is one of eighteen nominees for the Trofeo Del Mare 2017 being held in Pozzallo, Sicily, from the 27th to the 29th July.

This will be the seventeenth edition of this Event which brings to life the many stories of men and the sea along the Mediterranean routes. Candidates are considered for nomination on being proposed by  public and private institutions, sports and cultural associations and those active in the marine and maritime sector. The event, which this year has been included among the national events to mark the 120th anniversary of the Lega Navale Italiana, is organised by the Lega Navale Italiana (Sezione Pozzallo), the Reggione Siciliana, the Soprintendenza del Mare and the Comune di Pozzallo.

Throughout his active career Sultana has already been awarded a number of recognitions. These include that of 1986 – Sport Official of the Year (Għaqda Kittieba Sports – Malta), 2013 – Life Career Recognition in Media and Sport (Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports – Malta), 2016 – Life Career Recognition as a Journalist, Publisher and Events Organiser  (ONE Group -TV/Radio – Tribute Awards) and 2017 – Life Career Recognition as a Journalist, Publisher and Events Organiser (Yachting Malta).

Wilfred Sultana is currently the Commodore of the Malta Cruising Club.

In its past sixteen editions three Maltese personalities have won the Trofeo del Mare Award. These were Timmy Gambin – Archaeologist in 2011, John Ripard – Yachtsman in 2012 and Francis Portelli – Shipowners in 2014.
