Philip won his fight against, Dean Howard from the ‘Basing Stoke Boxing Club’ on a split decision (majority 2 – 1).
Galea, won the first round by constantly blocking the blows of the stronger, Howard and answering back with timely jabs, which sent the Maltese boxer ahead on points.
In the second round, Howards superior strength and experience took there toll on Galea, with the Maltese boxer slowing down considerable in his counter attacks. This round went to the, Basing Stoke boxer.
In the third round, the St Julian’s boxer came out of his corner with a renewed determination and through out the round kept constant pressure on the English boxer, putting him ahead on points, with this round most definitely going to the Maltese boxer.
This is Philip Galea’s third time to go in between the ropes, he has very little competition experience but makes up for it with natural talent, determination and courage.
Tomorrow Saturday will see in action, Peter Kahout and once again Philip Galea.
Sunday will see in action, Haithem Laamouz and Zak Farrugia, both of whom are still fresh from their recent participation in the ‘Mohamed the Sixth’ international boxing tournament in, Morocco were Farrugia won the bronze medal.
The St Julian’s coach for this tournament is, Julian Borg who has Maltese roots and along with other English coaches has been very instrumental in pushing up the level of the Maltese boxers.
