Maltese boxer, Philip Galea – 75Kg (St Julian’s boxing club) was the first boxer from the Malta team to go into action at the ‘Haringey Box Cup’ which is being held in London, England.

Philip won his fight against, Dean Howard from the ‘Basing Stoke Boxing Club’ on a split decision (majority 2 – 1).

Galea, won the first round by constantly blocking the blows of the stronger, Howard and answering back with timely jabs, which sent the Maltese boxer ahead on points.

In the second round, Howards superior strength and experience took there toll on Galea, with the Maltese boxer slowing down considerable in his counter attacks. This round went to the, Basing Stoke boxer.

In the third round, the St Julian’s boxer came out of his corner with a renewed determination and through out the round kept constant pressure on the English boxer, putting him ahead on points, with this round most definitely going to the Maltese boxer.

This is Philip Galea’s third time to go in between the ropes, he has very little competition experience but makes up for it with natural talent, determination and courage.

Sunday will see in action, Haithem Laamouz and Zak Farrugia, both of whom are still fresh from their recent participation in the ‘Mohamed the Sixth’ international boxing tournament in, Morocco were Farrugia won the bronze medal.
