Malta’s away test against Turkey on Sunday

Malta’s women will again feature against Turkey on Sunday 11th April in the Women’s FIFA World Cup European Group match. This time they will meet their opponents on foreign soil, after the two teams faced each other at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday 27th March.

The result then was a 2-0 win for the Turks, who managed to wrap up the result by grabbing the chances which came their way. By contrast, the Malta team’s profligacy proved their undoing, and this accounted for their defeat.

The test which faces our girls against opponents who will have home advantage is expected to be stiff. This despite the improvement evident in Pierre Brincat’s team in very recent matches, apart from the home tie against Turkey, which also showed some positive signs in team play.

Our coach will be relying more or less on the same formation that did duty in their last outing. Tactical prudence will very likely be his priority, but he will also stress the need for his units to sharpen their mental preparation and shed off certain inhibitions when on the point of execution.

Malta has lost the three matches so far in their group, having been previously beaten by heavyweights, Spain and England.
