For the first time in its history, Malta managed to win the Mediterranean Drivers Trotting Championship organised by the Mediterranean Horse Racing Union. This championship came to an end last weekend with the last two heats held at the Voronezh Racetrack in Russia. Our country was represented by Tony Demanuele who triumphed in the first heat organised on Saturday with Russian horse Almanac and in front of the French and Russian participants. On Sunday, Demanuele ended sixth in the second heat. This race was won by the Italian representative infront of the Russian and Slovenian drivers. Thanks to Demanuele’s performance in these two heats, Malta won the Championship by half point from Italy and Serbia who finished jointly in second place.

In Russia, Tony Demanuele was accompanied by Marco Millo, Malta Racing Club official and returned to Malta on Tuesday. In a press statement, the Malta Racing Club Council expressed its gratitude all drivers who represented our country throughout the 2010 Championship. “This success should encourage all Maltese drivers to continue taking part in international competitions in the future,” concluded the press statement.
