The Mediterranean Horse Racing Union is an organisation consisting of several countries that each year organise a racing championship in several countries with points awarded for every race with the country amassing the most points being declared Mediterranean champion. These last years interest in this championship had diminished considerably and in fact there were a couple of years when Malta did not participate.  This year the Malta Racing Club decided to take part once again and as was the custom organise also the first leg of this championship. Malta had won this championship in 2010 with a team consisting of 6 drivers.

This year four legs were planned. The first leg on 31st March was held in Malta with two races in which the Maltese representative Julian Farrugia managed to finish 1st and 2nd thus our country was declared the winner of the first leg.

Next was the leg held at Palermo (Sicily) on 29th June in which Rodney Gatt finished 1st and 3rd with Malta tying with Italy as the winners of the second leg.

Unfortunately the leg to be held at Cagnes-sur-Mer (France) on the 16th July had to be cancelled after the terroristic attack in Nice two days before. Our representative here was Charles Camilleri.

The last and conclusive leg was held in Russia on the 6th and 7th August. The races were spread over two racetracks.  Our representative Anthony Demanuele won the race in Ramenskoye whilst in Moscow he finished 1st and 3rd with Malta once again being declared the winner of the day as well as overall winner of the championship ahead of Italy and France.

The other participating countries in this championship were Italy, France, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Ukraine, Dagestan,Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Well done to our drivers Julian Farrugia, Rodney Gatt, Charles Camilleri and Anthony Demanuele.

Malta Tirbaħ il-Kampjonat tal-Mediterran

L-MHRU (Mediterranean Horse Racing Union), hija organiżżazjoni magħmula minn  pajjiżi Ewropej li kull sena bejniethom jorganiżżaw kampjonat ta’ tiġrijiet f’diversi koros fejn jingħataw punti għal kull tiġrija bil-pajjiż li l-aktar jakkumula punti jiġi ddikjarat rebbieħ tal-Kampjonat. Sfortunatament dawn l-aħħar snin l-interess f’dan il-Kampjonat naqas konsiderevolment u filfatt kien hemm xi snin meta Malta ma kinietx qed tipparteċipa.  Din is-sena l-Malta Racing Club iddeċieda li jerġa jieħu parti u bħal qabel organiżża l-ewwel tappa tal-kampjonat.  It-Tim Malti li dakinhar kien jikkonsisti minn 6 sewwieqa kien ukoll ħareġ rebbieħ f’dan il-Kampjonat fis-sena 2010.

Din is-sena dan il-Kampjonat kien ipprogrammat fuq erba’ tapep.  L-ewwel waħda saret Malta fil-31 ta’ Marzu b’żewġ tiġrijiet bir-rappreżentant Malti Julian Farrugia jirnexxielu jirbaħ tiġrija u fl-oħra jispiċċa t-tieni sabiex b’hekk Malta kienet iddikjarata rebbieħa ta’ din it-tappa.

Wara kien imiss il-Korsa ta’ Palermo (Sqallija) nhar id-29 ta’ Ġunju fejn is-sewwieq Rodney Gatt rebaħ tiġrija u fl-oħra ingħata t-3 post biex Malta spiċċat punti daqs l-Italja u għalhekk qasmu bejniethom ir-rebħ tat-tieni tappa.

Sfortunatament it-tiġrija li kellha ssir Cagnes-sur-Mer (Franza) fis-16 ta’ Lulju kienet ikkanċellata bħala luttu wara l-attakk terroristiku li seħħ f’Nizza jumejn qabel.  Ir-rappreżentant Malti hawnhekk kien Charles Camilleri.

L-aħħar tappa, li wkoll kellu tkun waħda deċiżiva, saret fir-Russja nhar is-6 u 7 ta’ Awissu.  It-tiġrijiet kienu mifruxa fuq żewġ koros.  Is-sewwieq Malti Anthony Demanuele rebaħ it-tiġrija li saret Ramenskoye filwaqt li fil-Korsa ta’ Moska huwa rebaħ l-ewwel tiġrija u spiċċa t-tielet fl-oħra sabiex Malta kienet iddikjarata rebbieħa tat-tappa filwaqt li t-Tim Malti kien iddikjarat rebbieħ tal-Kampjonat quddiem l-Italja u Franza.

Il-pajjiżi l-oħra li pparteċipaw f’dan il-kampjonat kienu l-Italja, Franza, ir-Russja, Serbja, Spanja, l-Ukrajina, id-Dagestan, Kazakstan u Użbekistan.

Nifirħu lis-sewwieqa li ffurmaw it-Tim Malti – Julian Farrugia, Rodney Gatt, Charles Camilleri u Anthony Demanuele.
