Malta Veterans v Hamrun Legends for Dar Bjorn

A Malta Veterans Selection beat Hamrun Spartans Legends 5 -1 in an exhibition match played on Sunday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in aid of Newer and Bigger Dar Bjorn.

Carmel Busuttil (13′, 29′), Michael Borg Olivier (21′, 52′), amd Simon Shead (75′) scored for the Veterans, with Stefan Sultana (30) replying from the spot for Hamrun.

Bjorn Formosa attended the event organised by the Veterans Malta Football Association (VMFA). He was greeted by the two squads together with MFA Vice President Adrian Casha and VMFA president Malcolm Camilleri.

The game was controlled by former MFA and FIFA referee Lorry Sammut while the two teams paraded stalwarts such as Alex Azzopardi, Marco Grech, Ray Vella, Michael Degiorgio, Stefan Sultana, David Camilleri, Leo and Gejtu Refalo, Ernest Barry, Jeffrey Chetcuti, Stephen Wellman, Brian Said, Silvio Vella, John Buttigieg, Carlo Mamo, Michael Galea and Carmel Busuttil.

At the end of the match the sum of €800 was collected and donated to Dar Bjorn.

MFA vice-president Adrian Casha commended the initiative and said that the MFA will always support such noble endeavours. He also presented a Number 1 Malta shirt to Bjorn Formosa.

During the event former Malta international Raymond Vella was induced in the VMFA’s Hall of Fame.

The Hamrun Spartans U/17 squad also presented a donation in aid of the Newer and Bigger Dar Bjorn project.
