Malta played the last match of the tournament against host country Slovenia who was determined to finish the tournament on a positive note after suffering a narrow defeat with a goal on the 93rd minute in the previous game against Slovakia.

Our opponents were very aggressive and put the Maltese rear guard under pressure right from the very first whistle.

Slovenia took an early lead when off a corner, the ball bounced in front of the goalkeeper and Enej Jelenic placed the ball at the back of the net from close range.

After losing possession in midfield, the hosts took full advantage and a through pass for Dino Stancic left him all alone in front of the goalkeeper, having no difficulty to double the score.

Four minutes later, Slovenia won a free kick just outside the penalty area and from the well-taken kick, Enej Jelenic scored his second goal and the third for his side.

Three minutes from half-time, the host team made it four-nil. The Maltese once again lost possession in midfield and following a good run, Dino Stancic scored again.

Malta coach Michael Molzahn made two changes for the second half. Play was now rather balanced and the Slovenia side did not create more chances. On the other hand, Malta went close with a good shot by Keith Fedele which just missed the target and then on 78 minutes, substitute Ryan Micallef hit the cross bar with a shot from just outside the area.
