The Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union is hosting the ‘European Youth Sport Forum’. The Forum is being organised by SportMalta, in collaboration with the European Commission.

Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sports Chris Agius initiated the event, to which more than 120 delegates from all over Europe attended.

Parliamentary Secretary Agius explained that this forum fulfills one of the priorities of the Maltese Presidency. The Maltese are aspiring to share good practices tied to this sector with European partners. Malta succeeded in working hand in hand with the social partners, civil society, and citizens, in order to give rights to minorities and vulnerable groups. These efforts are being exerted in both the sports and youth sectors. In addition, Malta is one of the first countries to certify voluntary workers, and this experience is worth considering, claimed Parliamentary Secretary Agius.

The Forum’s Programme is implemented over four days, with a different theme discussed each day. The themes include social inclusion and volontary work, a healthy life through sports, and diplomacy in sports. In addition to the number of discussions, participants were given the opportunity to participate in a different sport.

Other prominent conference speakers included head of the EAC Sport Department of the European Commission Yves Le-Lostecque.
