The Malta National team plays against Israel, this Saturday 16th April at Hibernians Ground in Corradino.

MRFU Secretary General Don Hewer and President Brian Dalton welcomed members of the media who were present for this morning’s Press Conference ahead of Malta’s forthcoming match against Israel, which is the last game in the Nations Cup. President Dalton took the opportunity to thank all those involved in the organisation of the game and in particular the Union’s sponsors, without which the Union could not develop and grow.

National Coach Damian Neill touched briefly upon last week’s performance against Switzerland, which was not satisfactory. In reply to whether Switzerland was considerably superior Neill commented that the team underperformed overall, this combined with a number of wrong choices cost it dearly.

Neill continued that Israel will be a very physical game, and will certainly be coming to Malta for a win. Although previously Malta won against Israel, it is going to take a lot of teamwork and cohesion to take a home win. However, playing to a home crowd, and an intensely passionate one for that matter, the team has a higher incentive to deliver.

Neill is confident of the talent that the squad has, and if they focus properly and limit their mistakes, then a win is possible. There is no room for complacency and it will certainly be a dogfight between the two teams.

The squad is currently undergoing their final preparations before the final selection is announced on Friday evening.

MRFU is encouraging the Maltese crowd to come and support the team as it normally does. Doors open at 12:30hs, play starts at 14:00hrs. Tickets can be bought online viahttp://new.ticketline.com.mt/bookings or at the door.
