John Buttigieg will be using today’s friendly match against Macedonia (Kick off at 8.00pm) as a preparation for the upcoming double fixture against Israel and Latvia scheduled for the first week of September as part of the EURO 2012 qualifiers where Malta was draw in Group F including also Georgia, Croatia and Greece.

Buttigieg is very optimistic that his men can perform a good show tonight and even manage a win that would be the first ever win against Macedonia after our National team lost the previous five encounters with this side.

The Malta National coach said in a Press Conference yesterday morning that he was not happy that the first official qualifier games were scheduled for September since it would be still very early in the season. He added that tonight’s game against Macedonia would be the very first competitive match of the 2010.11 season for the majority of his players, and although this might be a drawback he was still very confident to start this season with a positive result especially when this game is  being played on home soil.

Buttigieg and his assistant Carmel Busuttil together with a contingent of players have just returned from a week long pre-season camp in Italy in preparation for the new season.

Malta v Macedonia will be broadcast live on Malta Stars – Channel 614 the new local Sports channel of Melita plc with transmission commencing at 7.45pm.
