Malta Handball Federation rewarded by the International Handball Federation

A second International Handball Federation (IHF) development meeting for the 16 European emerging handball Federations, took place on 2nd September at the IHF Head Office in Basel.

The 16 IHF emerging members are; Malta, Andorra, Faroe Islands, Lichtenstein, Georgia, Latvia, Ireland, Great Britain, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Albania, Kosovo, Armenia, Bulgaria, Estonia and Luxemburg.

Malta Handball Federation (MHA) was represented by Mr. Clyde Borg Conti, (CEO), and Mr. Clive Ferrante, (MHA Media officer).

The agenda for this meeting was to discuss the four year plan which is a project of the IHF which was launched in late 2012. The aim of the four year plan is to provide the IHF emerging members with a concept to develop handball in their country and in the same time increase the number of players, coaches, referees and strengthen the national league.

The four-year plan is based on 5 key fields; education, competition, management cooperation field and marketing. The plan aims at improving the managing, consulting and controlling of the National Federations and increase the popularity of handball all over the world especially in small countries which do not have all the possibilities to manage these tasks on their own.

During the meeting, the IHF reviewed and assessed the first year implementation of the 4 year plan. Results of each Federation where presented and discussed.

Malta achieved a very positive result by placing second after Georgia.

The top three Nations; Georgia, Malta and Latvia were awarded a certificate by IHF President, Mr. Hassan Moustafa, together with further development assistance for their excellent results.

During the meeting, Mr. Moustafa announced that the IHF is planning an official tournament played among the 16 emerging Nations.
