Malta Gozo Malta Swimming Championship takes place this Saturday

Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club Malta Gozo Malta Swimming Championship takes place this Saturday

Saturday 29th August will see the annual Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club Malta Gozo Malta Swimming Championships take part.

Seventy nine swimmers have qualified to under the 5.5k Gozo-Malta swim, whilst 10 swimmers will be undertaking the 11km Malta-Gozo-Malta Swim.  The Race will also be welcoming a number of international athletes, some hailing from far flung places such as Australia.

Malta’s Open Water Swimming Champion Neil Agius will be undertaking the Malta-Gozo-Malta Swim for the first time, whilst runner up Luke Camilleri Cuschieri and Female National Champion Sarah Demicoli will be undertaking the Gozo-Malta Swim.  The 11-kilometre Malta-Gozo-Malta swim will start at Marfa at 6:30 a.m., whilst the Gozo-Malta Swim will start from Ras il-Qala at 8:15 a.m. The first swimmers will be expected to reach Malta at about 9:30 a.m. finishing at the Ramla Bay Resort Beach which will be all set up for this occasion.

The race route will be closed for maritime traffic throughout the event as per  Local Notice to Mariners No. 57  issued by Transport Malta, through the Ports and Yachting Directorate. An AFM Patrol Boat and police sea crafts will be in attendance to ensure the safety of the swimmers, who will all be accompanied by an escort boat. Land and sea ambulances will also be present.

A presentation ceremony will take place immediately after the Race and will be presided by the President of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, Mr. Joe Caruana Curran.

Il-Kampjonat tal- Għawm tal-Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club Malta Gozo Malta iseħħ nhar is-Sibt

Nhar is-Sibt 29 ta’Awissu ser iseħħu il-Kampjonati annwali tal-Għawm tal- Malta- Gozo – Malta organizzata mill- Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club.

Disa u sebgħin għawwiema li ikkwalifikaw għal-għawma ta’ ħamsa u nofs kilometri, fejn huma jitilqu minn Għawdex għal Malta, filwaqt li għaxar għawwiema se jieħdu sehem fl-għawma li ser teħodhom minn Malta għal Għawdex  u lura, b’distanza totali ta’ ħdax il-kilometru. Fit-tellieqa ser jkun hemm numru ta’ atleti internazzjonali, b’xi uħud gew saħansitra mill-Awstralja apposta.

Ir-Rebbieħ tal-Kampjonat Open Water tal-istess Klabb, Neil Agius ser jieħu sehem fl-għawma bejn Malta-Għawdex u Malta għall-ewwel darba,  filwaqt li Luke Camilleri Cuschieri, li ħa t-tieni post fil-kampjonati tal Open Water u ir-rebbieħa femminili tal-istess kampjonat Sarah Demicoli se jkunu jieħdu sehem fl-għawma bejn Ghawdex u Malta.

L-għawma ta’ ħdax il- kilometru minn Malta -Għawdex -Malta ser tibda mill-Marfa fis- 6:30 am, filwaqt li l-għawma bejn Għawdex u Malta se tibda minn Ras il – Qala fit-8:15 L-ewwel għawwiema ikunu mistennija li jaslu Malta madwar 9 : 30 am fil- Ramla Bay Beach Resort.

Ir-rotta tat-tellieqa ser tkun magħluqa għat-traffiku marittimu matul l-avveniment skont l-Avviż Lokali lill -Baħħara Nru 57 maħruġa minn Transport Malta, permezz tad-Direttorat tal-Portijiet u Yachting. Patrol Boat tal-Frozi Armati, kif ukoll tal-pulizija se jkunu preżenti biex jiżguraw is-sigurtà ta ‘l- għawwiema, li kollha se jkun akkumpanjati minn dgħajsa skorta. Ambulanzi, kemm tal-art u tal-baħar se jkunu preżenti wkoll.

Iċ- ċerimonja tal- preżentazzjoni se ssir immedjatament wara it-tellieqa u se tkun ippreseduta mill- President tal- Aquatic Sports Association ta ‘Malta, is-Sur Joe Caruana Curran.
