The Under 16 Women National team obtained their second victory in the FIBA Europe Division C championship in La Vella Andorra. Sandro Farrugia’s girls had another good performance this time against Gibraltar and won the game 52-26. Thanks to this victory, Malta will now play against Cyprus in the semi-final stage. Cyprus won both games in Group B against Monaco and Gibraltar.

After a shaky beginning from both sides, Malta took a small lead of 4 points by the 6th minute of the first period. Till the end, there was only 1 free-throw by Martina Scicluna for a 9-4 score. The Maltese girls increased the lead to 11 points half way through the second period 17-8 and by halftime, the score was 21-8. Points were limited in the third quarter especially in the first  minutes however a run of 11-2 including a Gaby Mifsud triple ended all hopes for Gibraltar as Malta extended the lead to 20 points by the end of the session 34-14.

The 4th quarter was a balanced affair and a high scoring one for a final score of 52-26. Monique Caruana and Gaby Mifsud were Malta’s top scorers with 8 points each whilst Julia Xerri had 10 rebounds. The semifinal will be played today against Cyprus at 16:30.
