Algeria and Malta played out a very enjoyable game today at the Africa Union Stadia today. It all started when Meghzili Zahir had a cracking shot saved by Mifsud Matthew after just over a minute. A freekick for a pass back provided Boudebouz Celim Mounir with a chance as he smashed it at goal only for Malta to deflect it behind for a corner that didn’t come to anything. Algeria had more possession in the early part of the game but not really getting into Malta’s half. Meghzili Zahir manages to get within shooting distance for Algeria, Benfatah Sophiane S. managed to pick up a yellow card for coming onto the pitch too early as Algeria made a substitution. Malta won a corner and the first goal of the game was scored. The ball was played by Saliba Xavier through to Cutajar John and the Malta captain smashed it into the net from 10m.

Saliba Xavier had a shot from out wide that was pushed away by Tifrani Farid for a throw, after that the Algerians really started to put on the pressure on Malta and tested Mifsud Matthew several times but the keeper stood strong and pushed everything away. Bedredine Ali, Melab Boulem and Benfatah Sophiane S. all have shots that are parried away for corners and clearances.
Chelali Illies lovely individual play, spinning on the ball before laying it off to Benfatah Sophiane S. to shoot straight at Mifsud Matthew was only topped in the first half by some total futsal. Algeria were close to scoring from a similar move as Turkey did yesterday when Boudebouz Celim Mounir played a looping ball to Benfatah Sophiane S. who’s header was tipped wide by the ever busy Mifsud Matthew in the Malta goal.

Algeria were dominating in the game and it wasn’t long before they started scoring and was Bedredine Ali to start it off, he managed to get a shot away that Mifsud Matthew couldn’t keep out. With Algeria dominating possession, the ball broke to Meghzili Zahir, he took a touch before thrashing it into the back of the net under outstretched leg of Mifsud Matthew to go into half time with the lead.

The second half was a master class of goalkeeping by Mifsud Matthew, it was absolutely fantastic to watch. Magro Robert shot after a slip from Cutajar John let the Algerians through but Mifsud Matthew continued his fine form from the first half. Ellul Michael has a shot for Malta and knocks it wide when Smith David was waiting in space, Smith David tells him exactly what he thought about that.
Benfatah Sophiane S. has a shot on goal and it looked like going in only to be saved by a goal line sliding challenge from Cutajar John, fantastic defending from Malta. Algeria continued to dominate in the attacking options and it wasn’t too long before Benfatah Sophiane S. had a shot as the defence splits but Mifsud Matthew keeps it out with an outstretched leg. Boudebouz Celim Mounir had an amazing shot from out wide that was dipping but a diving save from the Malta keeper continued to keep them in the game. Gatt Jean Bert gets the ball played to him and he shoots over the bar from out wide, Chelali Illies smashed one at Mifsud Matthew only for the keeper to make a good 2 handed save for Malta. Algeria managed to hit the post and played out the final 30 seconds without any further problems to win this game by 2 – 1. Most valuable Player Mifsud Matthew said after the game, “It was a great game, we let in a soft goal but overall it was a good performance, it’s my first year so I am already looking forward to the next championships, if the Ball doesn’t beat me then they won’t score.”

The below are all the results of the Malta National Team in Libya:
