Malta Drifting Championship gets off to a good start

Posted By Sportinmalta On April 16, 2017 @ 2:45 pm In Featured,Motorsport | No Comments

It turned out to be a spectacular day full of adrenalin and entertainment.  The day started with free practice runs where all drivers had the opportunity to get to grips with the track whilst mastering the techniques needed.  After briefing; the qualifying’s started where each and every driver had 3 judged runs, and were given points based on line, clipping zones, angle, speed and style.

The first round for 2017 offered spectators a lot of excitement! We would like to congratulate the winner for this first round for the PRO Category; Brian Mifsud with his BMW who made it to the top position; followed by Frank Spiteri in his RX7 in the 2nd position and Kane Pisani with his Supra in the 3rd position.  In this category we have also seen Marisa Grixti make it to the top qualifying position; however not able to continue the race due to an impact against the pavement in one of the practice runs! We have also had a new driver who won the Amateur class in 2016 Philip Grima competing in this category with his Nissan S14 also.

In the Amateur category we have had Shaw Pisani winning this round in the 1st position, followed by Brandon Camilleri in the 2nd position and Kurt Barbara in the 3rd position.

We have seen a very good level of drifting with the overall level always improving and new members always joining in. We will be seeing more drivers taking part very soon as we have had a large number of drivers still finishing off their cars.

Last but not least on behalf of all the drivers, we would like to say thank you to motorsmt.eu for the livestreaming as well as Adrian Figallo and George Muscat for the judging and many more sponsors supporting our events. Such a brilliant event would not happen without the time, dedication and support of everyone involved.

The Next round is going to be held on the 21st May. Follow us on our Facebook page ‘Malta Drifting Association’ to keep in tune with all updates.
