Match Day 5: Tricky encounters for the leaders

With three clubs on maximum points and three clubs still searching their first win… this week’s Match day 5 could offer us some entertaining matches…

Matchday 5 kick starts on Saturday afternoon at the Victor Tedesco Stadium as lacklustre Floriana take on off form Rabat Ajax. The Greens and the Magpies are coming from identical 3-0 losses against Birkirkara and Hibernians respectively. The Greens could field Tyronne Farrugia and Duncun Pisani as they was among the substitutes against the Stripes. Rabat Ajax are still searching for their first win of the season and are still without influence striker Astrauskas. Goalkeeper Sean Mintoff is back in frame to play against his boyhood club Floriana after recovering from a minor head injury.

In the second match joined leaders Birkirkara will play a tricky match against a depleted Sliema Wanderers at 19.15. Birkirkara will have Joselito back after missed the last two outings, while Sliema Wanderers coach Alfonso Greco has no selection problems.

On Sunday Hibernians take on Balzan FC at the National Stadium – kick off at 17.00 and will be live on Tvm 2. Hibernians has no selection problems and now welcome back striker Jean Paul Farrugia after heplayed some part in last week 3-0 win against Rabat Ajax. The former Youths will be without influence midfielder Pedro dos santos Calcado and are still searching their first win of the season.

In the second match Mosta take on Qormi as both clubs are in form after respectively win against Hamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers. Mosta coach Steve D’Amato welcome back Ryan Grech after he missed last Monday 4-1 win, while Qormi has no selection problems and could again depends on strikers Vincenzo Pisani and Abubaker.

On Monday Tarxien Rainbows take on Melita as the Rainbows are slightly favourite after their first win against Balzan last Monday. The Amateurs will be without defender Jovan Vukanac as he was sent off in last week 5-1 defeat against champions Valletta.

Match day 5 ends on Monday night as leaders Valletta take on Hamrun Spartans at the National Stadium kick off at 20.00. The Capital club are coming from four consecutive wins and will start favourites to get another three points. Hamrun Spartans are without striker Yoshev, but welcome back goalkeeper Andrea Cassar and captain Roderick Fenech, who recently was called to the National squad, he will also meet against his older brother Ryan. Valletta coach Mark Miller has no selection problems. Valletta this week played in 4-3 friendly defeat against Libyan champions Al Ahly.
