M.E.S.A. in the World Company Sport Games

A 37-strong contingent of athletes participating in six different sport disciplines will be representing the Malta Employees Sports Association (MESA) in the second edition of the World Company Sport Games taking place between 23rd and 27th May in La Baule in France.

MESA, which organises various sports activities for workers in all sectors, has been taking part for the past four years in these international games specifically for workers.

In La Baule, a tourist resort on the Atlantic coast in western France, MESA will be represented by the largest contingent ever as these 37 athletes will be taking part in Athletics, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Bowling, Cycling and Darts.

A staggering 5,000 athletes from all over the world will be taking part in 23 different sport disciplines in these five day Games, which are being organised by the World Federation for Company Sport (WFCS).

The MESA contingent will be made up of the following athletes:

Athletics: Paul Apap, Peter Azzopardi, Michael Bezzina, Leslie Camilleri, David Cassar, Matthew Robert Gauci, Marilyn Grech, Adrian Mifsud, Mark Mifsud, Melvin Mifsud, Lawrence Ransley, Matthew Scicluna and Adrian Tanti

Badminton: Edmond Abela, Joanne Cassar, Jacqueline Degiovanni, Stpehen Ferrante, Aldo Polidano, Sandra Spiteri and Kenneth Vella

Beach Volley: Ladies – Maria Caruana Demicoli and Isabel Cutajar; Men – Angelo Bonello and David Mario Caruana

Bowling: BOV – Alan Attard, Hubert Camilleri, James Grech, Mark Serge and Joseph Edward Xuereb; MIA – Aaron Belli, Stephen Cassar, Mario Ellul, Charles Farrugia, Charles Galea and Alfred Pulis

Cycling: Michael Grima

Darts: Joseph Mallia

Earlier this week, the MESA contingent met Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat at the Auberge De Castille, where Dr Muscat augured the Maltese athletes success during these Games. Present for this meeting with the Prime Minister were Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Sport, Dr Clifton Grima, and Principal Permanent Secretary Mr Mario Cutajar.

The MESA contingent, led by President Mark Marlow, leaves Malta next Tuesday, 22nd May and returns on Monday, 28th May.
