Luxembourg continued its dominance of the Junior Girls category within the Small Countries Division by winning this year’s edition played on home soil. This follows Luxembourg’s triumphs in 2006 in San Marino and two years ago in Liechtenstein. Cyprus placed second, confirming the placing obtained in the last two editions, whilst Liechtenstein placed third to confirm the top three from two years ago.

Malta girls together with second placed Cyprus

Following their victory over Ireland in the first match, the Maltese girls could not repeat themselves in the following matches, succumbing to three 0-3 defeats, which left them in fourth place in the standings. Ireland finished fifth.

The Maltese team was made up of the following players: Raissa Abela, Lara Caruana, Roxette Caruana, Daniela Ellul, Anna Grech, Daniela Grech, Leanne Spiteri and Sarah Spiteri. Of personal satisfaction to the players and the Maltese contingent were the placings obtained by different local players in the Individual Awards.

Malta’s participation in the European Junior Girls Volleyball Championships was made possible through the help of the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport.
