Zejtun Corinthians 3 – Naxxar Lions 3

Naxxar went ahead in the first fifteen minutes with two goals in quick succession. An impressive crowd turned up at the centenary stadium to support both teams in an electryfiying atmosphere. Zejtun managed to get the draw before half time from their experienced Carmel Formosa to get back in the match at the right time.

In the second half the match got tougher and the referee had to extract three red cards, award a penalty and had 4 minutes of nail biting injury time besides fending off continuous protests from the players and coaches alike.

As you can see from the photos the match was alive both on the pitch and off the pitch with the most colourful atmosphere one can imagine at the Centenary Stadium.

Zejtun managed to come back in the match and even forge ahead when the referee Mario Apap ordered a legitimate penalty when Jean Paul Abela was upended by the Naxxar keeper who was harshly red carded when it seemed that another Naxxar player was close by behind him.

Darren Falzon was then red carded for Naxxar when he got his yellow card for his foul in midfield. Naxxar got back on level terms when Simon Muscat managed to score from a perfect Glen Magri pass from the wing.

3-3 was the right score for this most entertaining match as Naxxar and Zejtun continue in their quest of seeking their direct promotion for the second division and evade the play-offs.
