Brazilian defender Leonardo Silva is Birkirkara’s latest acquisition after agreeing to a one year contract with an option to extend it for another year. Silva has captained Nuremburg in the Bundesliga in the 2004/05 season at the age of 24 playing a total of 17 games.

Silva is not eligible to play in Birkirkara’s Champions League campaign, but he still joined the team in Slovakia for their crucial clash against Žilina tomorrow.

Paul Zammit is very happy with the signing of Silva and he is convinced that the Brazilian’s experience will pay its dividends as he leads his team from the back.

Besides his stint in the Bundesliga, Leonardo Silva has also played in the top league of both Mexico and Honduras. In fact he last featured for Olympia de Honduras last season.

In the meantime Hercules Cardoso Ottoni the Brazilian striker who was on trial with Valletta has decided to travel back to Brazil as he did not agree financial terms with Valletta FC. He will most probably sign with a team from Costa Rica.

The following are a couple of videos of Birkirkara’s new signing Leonardo Silva :
