LEN European Junior Swimming Championships 2018

During the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships, held in Helsinki, Finland, between the 4th and 8th of July 2018, Malta was represented by the following seven swimmers:  Mya Azzopardi (Neptunes), Isaac Calleja (Sirens), Francesca Falzon Young (Sirens), Alexandra McGonigle (Marsaxlokk), Rudi Spiteri (Sirens), Leah Tanti (Sirens) and Martina Valletta (Sliema).

Whilst all swimmers did their utmost to improve their time, the following are the results worth noting:

Mya Azzopardi

  • 200 Medley with a time of 2:24,86 – National Record & Age Group D Record (previously held by Mya Azzopardi with 2:26,18) and a Youth Olympic Games Qualifying Time.
  • 100 Free with a time of 58,90 – Age Group D Record (previously held by Francesca Falzon Young) and a Youth Olympic Games Qualifying Time.
  • 50 Backstroke with a time of 30,96 – Age Group D Record (previously held by Francesca Falzon Young with 31,10).

Alexandra McGonigle

  • 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:13,51 – Youth Olympic Games Qualifying Time & GSSE 2019 Qualifying Time.

Freestyle Relay

  • 4x100m with a time of 3:59,53 – National Record – achieved by Francesca Falzon Young, Leah Tanti, Martina Valletta and Mya Azzopardi.
