St Andrew won three important points to avoid the relegation zone after beating Pembroke. They now share fifth place with San Gwann on 9 points from 6 games while Pembroke are still pointless from the same number of games and avoiding the relegation zone seems to be an uphill task.

The first action was created by Pembroke Michael Saliba entered the area after dribbling past two opponents and St Andrew keeper Kane Valletta saved his shot .

In the first attack by St Andrew in the 12th minute they opened the score as Liam Grech served Kyrian Nwoko with a cross from the left flank and he scored with a hard grounder from inside the area past Pembroke keeper ChristopherAzzopardi.

In another action by Pembroke Jordan Farrugia Coleiro served Saliba with a through ball and as the latter returned the compliment to Julian Zammit ,Valletta saved his shot from outside the area.

In a reaction by St Andrew they created three actions. Nwoko served JamieMagri Overend with a cross from the right and Azzopardi had to dive to save his header from inside the area. Sean Gatt Baldacchino released Nwoko on the right flank and the ball found no takers after he crossed the ball in the area and Luca Ferrante released Gatt Baldacchino on the right flank and after the ball was partly cleared from his cross-shot Jacob Walker missed the upright from the rebound.

Four minutes before the interval St Andrew doubled their lead when Ferranteserved Nwoko with a through ball in the area and as a defender handled the ballWalker made no mistake from the resultant penalty.

Just before the half time whistle Pembroke reduced the gap. They won a corner kick on the left flank which was well-taken by Saliba and after the ball was partly cleared in the path of the same palyer he crossed the ball in the area and James Mifsud scored with a hard rising shot.

The second period was dominated by St Andrew as they created all the actions as Pembroke tried very hard to operate on the break.

A Flag kick by Max Amato creted havoc in Pembroke’s area but Azzopardimanaged to palm the ball away. Walker dribbled past three opponents and after enering the area the ball missed the upright by inches from his hard grounder.

In the 55th minute Nwoko committed the miss-of-the-match when he drove out from two metres with only Azzopardi to beat after a perfect free kick byFerrante.

Gatt Baldacchino dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and after servingNwoko with a cross in the area the ball was cleared to a corner from his shot and Gatt Baldacchino then served Adam Sullivan in the area and he missed the upright.

Between the 74th and 78th minutes St Andrew added three more goals to their tally. From a flag kick by Gatt Baldacchino the ball was cleared in the direction of the same player who after crossing the ball in the area Liam Grech scored with a hard low drive. Nwoko released Ferrante in the area and he scored with a hard diagonal drive and Sullivan served Nwoko with a through ball in the area and he scored with a low shot.
