Two Maltese boxers, Kerstin Brown and Haithem Lamouz will be boxing in England on Friday the 19th November.  The event will be held at Lions Amateur Boxing Club premises, where Lions will be organising their Annual Boxing Show.  Lions ABC have close links with the Maltese Boxing Federation and have in the past visited our island to compete in international events or for training camps.

Both Maltese boxers are currently National champions in their respective categories.  Brown, who is still a youngster, will be boxing Dennis Flirianowilz from Lansbury Amateur Boxing Club, while Lamouz, Malta’s number one amateur boxer is set to face Craig Whyatt from Fitzriy Amateur Boxing Club.

Lamouz, hailing from St Julian’s Amateur Boxing Club, at Park Towers, is the only Maltese ever to participate in the World Championships.  He will box over three 3 minute rounds, the maximum length of time and rounds that is permitted in amateur boxing.  This is because Haithem Lamouz has advanced to the Intermediate Class in AIBA’s  rankings. (AIBA is the International Boxing Association).  He is the first local boxer to reach this bench mark.  Lamouz will be once again tipping the scales at under 60kg.

Brown, an up and coming Junior Category boxer will box in the under 35kg division.  He has successfully boxed all opposition in his weight class in Malta, thus this will be a good opportunity to test his skill against foreign boxers.  Kerstin Brown trains out of Gharghur Boxing Club.

Both boxers will have Julian Borg, a Maltese boxing coach operating out of London, in their corner during the fights.  It has become customary for Maltese boxers boxing in the UK to team up with Borg during their bouts.
