La Salle Trendi Handball league Champions

The Ladies Handball league came to a close last Saturday. Following a convincing win over Luxol, La Salle Trendi secured their fifth championship title. The team, coached by John Falzon, only lost one match and managed to beat former champions Aloysians in all rounds.

During the pre season, La Salle Trendi lost the services of three key International players who were replaced by Celaine Ellul, Louise Aquilina and Bulgarian centre back, Kami Dobrancheva. Former captain Yvonne Barry stopped playing for this term. John Falzon handed the captain’s arm band to Bernadette Vassallo.


The team started on a bitter taste when in October, the La Sallian Girls lost the MHA Cup. However, Falzon’s girls bounced back and succeeded in the Super cup final against former champions Aloysians.

On league day one, La Salle unexpectedly lost to newcomersPhoenix. However, from then onwards,La Sallenever looked back and remained unbeaten winning an impressive eight matches in a row.

In the final day of the 20011/12 championship,La Sallefaced a strong Luxol team. Tha match was rather balanced initially. However mid way through the first half,La Sallesurged ahead and maintained such lead throughout the rest of the encounter.

During the second half, the La Sallians capitalized the lead through a number of fast breaks. Falzon’s girls managed to control the match crowing them champions for the ultimate joy of the La Sallian Clan.

Left back Stephaine Desjardins, recently on a trial in theCzechRepublic, clinched the top scorer award hitting the target 59 times.
