As part of Hi-Impact Table Tennis Academy ‘s inauguration of their second premises in the heart of Valletta at St Albert’s College the Academy took off with an Open Day along with their first ranking tournament that shall start placing players in their appropriate position in the HiTT’s ranking system.

The Academy presently has four tiers of players with the Elite group being composed of the best eight players who are the envy of the rest of the HiTT team followed by 2 star and 1 star and a Mini Cadet section.

The tournament was an incredibly fought out affair in all categories. In the Elite category we find Malta’s best Juniors and here an incredible battle ensued both in the group stage and quarter finals section. Andrew Gambina Malta’s number 2 player who met up with James Camilleri in a battle of topspin and counter blocking that was finally won by Andrew Gambina for him to grasp the first edition of the HiTT Academy ranking system tournaments.

In the 2 star group which is also fledged by some of the best under fifteen players we saw some super table tennis with the experienced Nikolai Mercieca being beaten in the semi final by Miguel Pullicino and Gabriel Grixti beating Isaac Grixti in the other semi final.

Gabriel clinched gold after coning back from 0-2 and loosing 0-6 in the last set to win 3-2. In the up and coming 1 Star event we saw many surprises with some players playing beyond their normal standards and creating an amazing atmosphere. Gold winner in this category was Mathew Barthet attending St Martin’s College beating Daniel Farrugia who attends at Savio College 4-1 in the final.

The Mini Cadets had a ball as they played different fun games organised by ITTF coach Katia Mifsud. The popular HiTT summer school has been taken exceptionally well and HiTT have increased another two lessons to accommodate the demand for their classes. Two foreign coaches are to join HiTT this summer. For further details on the summer classes one can send email to or call 79591799.
